CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's soccer team quickly returns to action on Sunday evening back in the Carolinas, traveling to Queens for the first match-up ever between the two sides

GARDNER-WEBB NOTES
- The Runnin' Bulldogs opened 2025 with a narrow 1-0 loss at Stetson on August 14th, the return game from a series that began in Boiling Springs in 2024
- Gardner-Webb started five new faces on Thursday night at Stetson, including four freshmen and saw nine new players see action in the contest overall
- Senior goalkeeper Savannah Dixon made eight saves for the Runnin' Bulldogs, the third most by a Big South goalkeeper on opening night of the season
-  Five players for GWU played the full 90 minute game at Stetson including Dixon, sophomore defender Tanner Michael, senior midfielder Myla West, freshman defender Lauren Cancio, and senior midfielder Peyton Bryant
- Attack leaders for Gardner-Webb include senior defender Camila Lezcano with three shots, and junior forward Olivia Tribolet who had two on Thursday night
- Dating back to the 2022 season, Lezcano is set to make her 59th career appearance for the Runnin' Bulldogs on Sunday, the most on the team
- Bryant meanwhile is due to make her 36thh career appearance for the Runnin' Bulldogs while junior midfielder Lily Stegall will mark her 37th game in GWU colors
- Graduate forward Annie Slovak, who made her Gardner-Webb debut with 36 minutes as a substitute against Stetson, will mark her 63rd collegiate game between Gardner-Webb and Liberty with action on Sunday
- Queens will be the first of eight road games in 2025 for the Runnin' Bulldogs against teams from either North Carolina or South Carolina, including Elon, The Citadel, College of Charleston, Allen, UNC Asheville, USC Upstate and High Point that will follow
- In 2024, the Runnin' Bulldogs averaged north of a single goal per game, scoring 1.21 per contest. That includes 10 scored in the first half of games, tied for the second best mark in the Big South Conference
QUEENS NOTES
- Queens began 2025 with a 0-0 draw at home against Campbell on August 14th
- Gardner-Webb is the second of four straight home games for the Royals to open 2025, including the aforementioned Campbell, and Miami (OH), and Elon to follow
- Queens is entering its fourth season as an NCAA Division I program. The Royals have added a single win to their record in each campaign, winning three games in 2022, four in 2023, then finishing with five wins during the 2024 campaign
- Queens held a 2-1-0 record against the Big South last season, scoring wins over Winthrop and UNC Asheville, while suffering a setback against USC Upstate to open last season
- Of its full 33 player roster, the Royals feature 11 freshmen and seven seniors
- In 2024, Queens averaged 0.79 goals per game, while allowing an average of 2.11 in each contest
- Of the 15Â goals scored by the Royals last season, 14 were scored with an assist
- Queens allowed 141 corner kicks during the duration of the 2024 season, an average of nearly 7.5 per contest
