FARMVILLE, VA - The Gardner-Webb women's soccer team opened Big South Conference play on Saturday afternoon, suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat at Longwood
It was tight early on Saturday afternoon, with Gardner-Webb and Longwood combining for just five shots in a nip-and-tuck first half. The Runnin' Bulldogs were the aggressor early, with chances from junior forward
Olivia Tribolet and freshman forward
Ila Allred in the first ten minutes. Longwood saw its only real chance of the opening 45 saved by senior goalkeeper
Savannah Dixon in the 12th minute.
The second half was a very different story, with Longwood out-shooting Gardner-Webb 11-0. The Lancers made just one of those moments count, but were able to swing the game in the 62nd minute with the opening goal. Dixon was called on for a couple more saves, including one just before Longwood took the lead.
The remainder of the game was a physical battle without a lot of attacking play generated from either side, as Gardner-Webb dropped its league opener by a 1-0 final.
LEADERS
Tribolet and Allred each recorded one shot in both a little over 60 minutes played, Dixon notched three saves in goal, and senior defender
Camila Lezcano and redshirt junior midfielder
Peyton Bryant completed the full 90 minutes for GWU
