MILL SPRING, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb track and field team returned to action on Friday and Saturday, January 16th and 17th, taking part in the Tryon Winter Invitational
Taking part in the men's high jump, junior
Jonathan Timpson recorded a strong outing for Gardner-Webb. Timpson was tied for second in the event at 1.95 meters
Over in women's high jump, Gardner-Webb also placed second through sophomore
Paige Boyd. Boyd recorded a distance of 1.63 meters
In the men's weight throw, GWU recorded two top-ten finishers. Senior
Robert Joseph Jr. was fifth with a distance of 17.49 meters, while a mark of 16.8 meters was enough for Jon Garrett to take eighth
On Saturday, Gardner-Webb went 1-2 in the women's weight throw. Senior
Madison Boyd won the event with a mark of 16.78 meters, while junior
Zoie Johnson was second with 16.47 meters- the only two competitors to clear 16.00 meters
In the men's long jump, sophomore
Joshua Powell kept the good results rolling for GWU, placing fourth with a distance of 7.05 meters. Powell also competed in men's triple jump, where he placed fifth with 14.11 meters- Gardner-Webb teammate freshman Donovan Richardson was second in that event, with 14.48 meters
Fresh off an appearance at the NCAA Regionals last spring, senior
Quentin Peterson showed off the range in men's shot put again. 17.64 meters would be good enough for Peterson to take second place
Junior
Teandra Clemons was the lone finalist for GWU in the women's long jump, in third place and just off the top spot with a distance of 12.10 meters
Carrying the flag as one of Gardner-Webb's top distance athletes, senior Jessica Periello was near the top of the leaderboard again for the Runnin' Bulldogs in the women's 1-mile. Periello was second with a time of 5:10.03. In section four finals of the women's 1-mile, sophomore Claire Baur was third in 5:56.34
In the men's 1-mile, sophmore
Michael Fletcher competed in section four finals. Fletcher crossed the line in 4:54.40 to take home third place
In finals section nine, freshman
Skye Jackson posted one of the best times of her young college career.. Jackson placed second in the race by less than a second, clocking a time of 1:03.24. Sophomore
Gabrielle Comery would win section four with a time of 1:00.82
Gardner-Webb posted a great run across multiple sections of the men's 400 meters. In section six, freshman
Peyton Wheeler was second in 51.36, in section seven, sophomore
Angel Urugutia was third in 52.23 seconds, senior
DJ Black took the win in section eight in 52.42 seconds, and sophomore
Micah Morales won section nine in 53.48 seconds
