THE MATCH-UP:Â Â On Saturday afternoon, Gardner-Webb takes its 2-2 league record on the road to face Charleston Southern. The Bucs and Runnin' Bulldogs have meet 34 times previously, with Gardner-Webb holding a 23-11Â edge. GWU snapped a three-game skid in the series with a win in the Buc Dome last February, a place the Dawgs have only lost twice since 2018
LAST TIME OUT:Â After a wild, 17-point, come from behind win against USC Upstate, the Runnin' Bulldogs dropped to 2-2 in the Big South with a 53-38 loss at Radford on Wednesday night. Gardner-Webb did play well on the defensive end, holding Radford to 33% shooting, 28% from three, and forcing 19 turnovers, all while allowing under 60 points for the eighth time this campaign
THE HOT HAND:Â Junior guardÂ
Amina Gray was excellent for GWU in the win at Winthrop on New Years Eve to open Big South play, scoring a game-high 21 points, hitting eight of the Runnin' Bulldogs 17 made field goals and five of the team's eight three-pointers. The Dekalb, Ill. native has been a steady presence on offense this season under first-year head coach Terri Williams, averaging a career-best 12.2 points per gameÂ
BACK IN THE LINEUP:Â Junior guardÂ
Anaya Harris returned to the Gardner-Webb lineup on December 13th and has quickly made her presence known once again. The Raleigh, N.C. native dropped 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting in her season debut against Western Carolina, scored 20 in the loss to UNC Asheville last Wednesday night, and despite only scoring eight points against USC Upstate, scored the game-clinching bucket with under a minute to play
PRESS TO RUN:Â The strength of the Runnin' Bulldogs team so far in 2025-26 has been defense. In five wins, Gardner-Webb is allowing only 52.4 points per game, including a season-low 35 in a win over Hampton on November 16th where the Pirates shot 21.2% for the game and 14.% from three. In its five wins, Gardner-Webb has yet to allow an opponent to score more than 62 points.
SCOUTING THE HIGHLANDERS:Â Under 5th year head coach Clarisse Garcia, the Bucs have seen steady improvement. After going 2-27 and 5-25 in Garcia's first two seasons, CSU has won 11 and 14 games respectively each of the last two years, and are already 3-2 in the Big South in 2025-26
