Runnin' Bulldogs Fall at Home to Presbyterian, 50-46

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's basketball team (6-14, 3-3 Big South) suffered a home setback on Wednesday night, falling 50-46 to visiting Presbyterian (3-16, 1-5 Big South)

The visiting Blue Hose got off to a strong start on Wednesday night, as Gardner-Webb found itself in a 7-0 hole in the first 1:20 of action. The Runnin' Bulldogs quickly responded with a 5-0 run out of the early timeout but wouldn't take the lead for the first time until the final 2:30 of the third quarter

Points were at a premium between Gardner-Webb and Presbyterian, with the Runnin' Bulldogs shooting 7-of-29 and 2-of-14 from three in the first half, while the Blue Hose countered at 9-of-25 overall and 2-of-8 from three. GWU did make the most of its few baskets though, with senior guard Nyla Walker finishing a fast break in the final minute. At the break, Gardner-Webb trailed 22-19

Gardner-Webb got going a bit in the third and finally took its first lead late on. Senior guard Jaelyn Acker was crucial for the Runnin' Bulldogs, knocking down two three-pointers, then banking in a circus shot at the horn. It would however come down to the game's final minute. With GWU down one, junior guard Anaya Harris put the Runnin' Bulldogs in front 46-45 with 47 seconds left. To finish the game, the Blue Hose then hit two huge layups, and one last free throw, as Gardner-Webb fell 50-46

Acker finished with a team-high 14 points and four made threes in 35 minutes, Harris added 13 points off the bench, while five other Runnin' Bulldogs got on the score sheet

Gardner-Webb held Presbyterian to just 2-of-12 from three, but surrendered 38 points in the paint. The Runnin' Bulldogs also forced a season-high 31 turnovers with 20 recorded as steals
