Runnin' Bulldogs to Host Charleston Southern in Another Key Big South Contest on Wednesday Night

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's basketball team is back home inside Paul Porter Arena on Wednesday night, playing host to Charleston Southern in another key Big South Conference contest

THE MATCH-UP: On Wednesday night, Gardner-Webb and Charleston Southern meet for the 36th time, with the Dawgs holding a 24-11 lead in the series. In the most recent match-up down in North Charleston on January 17th, Gardner-Webb held CSU to just 29% from the field in a 52-45 road victory. That would be Runnin' Bulldogs second road win of the season in the Big South

LAST TIME OUT: The Runnin' Bulldogs scored one of its most important wins of the season last Saturday, defeating Winthrop 72-69 inside Paul Porter Arena. The Runnin' Bulldogs used one of its best shooting performances of the season early on, then held on down the stretch to secure one of its most important wins of the season, of note hitting 13-of-25 from three point range

BIG TIME PLAYER: Despite only playing 21 minutes last Friday and scoring just 8 points, Nyla Walker delivered maybe the two biggest plays of the season for Gardner-Webb at UNC Asheville. The senior guard forced the steal leading to the final change in possession, then calmly rose to knock down the game winning shot from mid-range, giving the Runnin' Bulldogs a key win on the road

SENIOR LEADER: Redshirt senior guard Jaelyn Acker was back in form in a big way against Winthrop, scoring 13 points on 4-of-9 shooting, all from three point range. The Furman transfer has scored in double-figures nine times this season for the Runnin' Bulldogs

SHE'S ON FIRE: In the win over Winthrop, GWU was paced largely by junior guard Amina Gray who shot her way to a career game. Gray poured in 27 points, hit 8-of-14 overall from the field, rained in 7-of-10 three pointers, with three rebounds, two steals and a block for good measure. Gray was at her best in the second quarter, where the Dawgs hit 9-of-14 from the field and 6-of-8 from distance on her way to a Big South Player of The Week nomination

AROUND THE LEAGUE: At 5-5 in the Big South, Gardner-Webb has now built a full game lead over 4-7 Winthrop and UNC Asheville and sits in fifth place. The Runnin' Bulldogs remain just a half game back of 6-5 Charleston Southern in the race for a potential top-four finish in the Big South Conference standings
