BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb (1-1) women's tennis picked up a 4-2 win over visiting Western Carolina (1-5) on Wednesday afternoon at the Webb Tennis Complex.
After the Runnin' Bulldogs tallied a win by forfeit at No. 3 doubles, Western Carolina came back with a victory on court one. However, GWU earned the doubles point with a dominant 6-3 win by Natalie Crawford and Valeria Lloclla at No. 2.
Once again, Gardner-Webb benefited from a forfeit, collecting a singles point on court five. The Catamounts battled back to knot the match at 2-all after winning courts two and one. The Runnin' Bulldogs regained the momentum as Lloclla picked up a 7-6 (2), 7-5 win at No. 4 singles before Crawford closed out the match with a hard-fought 6-4, 6-7 (3(, 6-4 win on court three.
Gardner-Webb returns to action on Saturday, February 14, playing host to the Wildcats of Davidson. Match time is slated for 1 p.m.
