Track and Field in Action at Tryon Mid-Winter Collegiate Invite

MILL SPRING, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb track and field teams were in action again on Friday and Saturday, competing in the Mid-Winter Collegiate Invite at Tryon International

Junior Austin DeGeorge led the way for GWU in the men's 600-meters race on Friday afternoon, one of the first events of the two-day meet weekend. DeGeorge brought it home fifth place, crossing the line in 1:26.45

The Runnin' Bulldogs placed fourth, fifth and sixth in men's weight throw. In fourth, senior Robert Joseph Jr. recorded 14.47 meters, sophomore Jon Garrett was fifth at 16.92 meters, and senior Quentin Peterson was sixth at 16.87 meters. Peterson also competed in men's shot put on Saturday, where the defending Big South Conference Champion was second place at 17.52 meters. In third was GWU teammate sophomore Magnum Chestnut with a mark of 15.60 meters

Gardner-Webb nabbed two top-10 finishes in the women's shot put event. Senior Adrionna Coleman continued an excellent indoor season with a mark of 13.52 meters, good enough for third place. Freshman Ella Riggs meanwhile was in ninth at 12.15 meters

Two Runnin' Bulldogs placed inside the top ten of the women's mile run. Sophomore Claire Bauer was fifth in 5:43.40, while GWU teammate sophomore Brooke Hope was sixth in 5:45.30. Smith also took part in the women's 60-meter finals, placing fifth in 7.81 seconds

Over in the field events, sophomore Joshua Powell posted one of the best results of the weekend for the Dawgs. Powell was second overall in men's long jump, recording an outstanding mark of 7.17 meters

GWU was fourth, sixth and eighth in women's weight throw. Senior Madison Boyd recorded a mark of 16.67 meters for fourth place, junior Zoie Johnson posted a distance of 16.35 meters for sixth, and freshman Hannah Hoffman was eighth with 15.15 meters

Nowhere did the Dawgs shine more than the women's long jump. GWU took both first and second place, with Teandra Clemons and Jada Pittman bringing home a 1-2 finish. Clemons won the event with a mark of 6.10 meters, the only athlete in the field to clear 6-meters-even. Pittman in second for Gardner-Webb, posted an impressive mark of 5.87 meters
