Runnin' Bulldogs End Day One of 2026 Big South Indoor Championships in Second and Fourth Place

MILL SPRING, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb track and field teams ended a successful first day of the 2026 Big South Indoor Championships, with the women's team in second place and men's team in fourth place

The women's pentathlon was in full swing on Friday, with senior Isa van Sintemaartensdijk competing for Gardner-Webb. With 9.4 seconds in the 60 meter hurdles, 2:38.23 in the 800 meters, 1.65 in high jump, 10.92 in shot put, and 5.67 in long jump, the Soesterberg, Netherlands was placed in second. Her best single events would see her top spot in shot put

In women's high jump, sophomore Paige Boyd brought it home in third. Boyd recorded a mark of 1.65 meters in an event that finished with the narrowest of margins

Men's weight throw saw senior Quentin Peterson defend his crown. Back where he won an indoor championship last winter, Peterson was first place again in the event, recording a mark of 20.00 meters- the only athlete in the field to eclipse 20 meters

GWU was scored third and fifth in women's weight throw. Finishing third was senior Madison Boyd with a mark of 18.02 meters, while junior Zoie Johnson was fifth with a mark of 17.16 meters

Junior Teandra Clemons continued a fine indoor season with a fourth place run in the women's long jump. Clemons put down a mark of 6.03 meters in the event, one of fourth athletes to clear 6-meters

In some of the first track finals of the day, sophomore Megan Devanny posted a ninth place finish in the women's 5000-meters. Devanny finished with a time of 18:16

Prelims were underway on Friday for several track and field events, including the men's 60 meters. In separate heats, senior DJ Black and sophomore Kalil Dennison posted sixth and seventh place runs. Black was seventh in 7.19, while Dennison was sixth in 7.13

Gardner-Webb returns to action on Saturday, with the lion-share of track events taking place on Day Two of the 2026 Big South Indoor Championships
