Gardner-Webb Men's Basketball Falls Short at Presbyterian

CLINTON, S.C. – Gardner-Webb (3-22, 1-9) men's basketball was unable to hold a halftime lead in a tough 68-62 loss at Presbyterian (12-13, 5-5) on Saturday afternoon inside the Ross E. Templeton Center. Saturday's contest saw five ties and 11lead changes.

The Runnin' Bulldogs placed three players in double digits, led by freshman guard Jamias Ferere who posted 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Sophomore forward Jacob Hogarth put together another solid outing with 12 points and a team-high five boards while Spence Sims knocked down four threes, finishing with 12 points.

Gardner-Webb finished the game with a 47.3% clip from the floor after connecting on 26-of-55 shots, including 6-for-16 from distance. The Dawgs struggled at the charity stripe, tallying only four makes in 12 total attempts.

The initial part of the game was a back-and-forth affair as the two teams traded the first 26 points before consecutive baskets by the Runnin' Bulldogs pushed the visitors ahead 17-13 midway through the opening period.

That advantage would extend to five points on a series of occasions, including heading into halftime after Ferere knocked down a jumper in the paint, giving the Runnin' Bulldogs a 36-31 lead at the break.

Presbyterian came out in the second half on a quick 8-2 run while taking the 39-38 lead. The remainder of the half was closely contested as PC did not lead by more than eight points at any point.

Jacob Hudson connected on a fastbreak layup with 1:31 to play, trimming the deficit to 61-59 but that would be as close the score would get with Presbyterian doing just enough to walk away with the 68-62 win.

Gardner-Webb returns to the friendly confines of Paul Porter Arena on Thursday, February 12, playing host to the Eagles of Winthrop. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
