SUMTER, S.C. - The Gardner-Webb (7-3) men's tennis team delivered a commanding performance Sunday afternoon, sweeping USC Sumter 7-0 on the road.
The Runnin' Bulldogs wasted no time taking control of the match, securing the doubles point with three convincing victories. Nicholas Reis and Billy Mac Clement struck first with a 6-3 win at No. 3, followed by a 6-2 decision from Adam Patry and Noah Zeiger at No. 1. Alexandre Bergeron and Graham Bourne sealed the sweep at No. 2 with a 6-3 triumph, giving Gardner-Webb early momentum.
Carrying that energy into singles, Gardner-Webb continued to apply pressure across the lineup.
Reis was first off the court at No. 4, cruising to a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Schreiber followed with a dominant 6-2, 6-0 win at the top position, while Johan Van Wijk added a 6-2, 6-1 result at No. 3.
Bourne controlled his match at No. 6 with a 6-3, 6-0 performance, and Billy Mac Clement earned a solid 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5.
At No. 2 singles, Kaua Cressoni battled in the most competitive match of the afternoon. After dropping the first set 5-7, Cressoni responded with a 7-5 second-set victory and closed out the match with a 10-5 win in the match tiebreak to complete the sweep.
The Runnin' Bulldogs return to action on Friday, March 6, traveling to take on Longwood in the Big South opener. First serve is slated for 2 p.m.
