STATESBORO, Ga. – The Gardner-Webb (10-3) men's tennis battled to a thrilling road victory Saturday afternoon, edging the Georgia Southern Eagles (5-6), 4–3, at the Wallis Tennis Center. Since its defeat to nationally ranked GSU in 2023 at home, the Runnin' Bulldogs have reeled off 19 straight on their home turf.
Gardner-Webb grabbed the early advantage by securing the doubles point with wins on courts two and three.
The duo of Alexandre Bergeron and Noah Zeiger earned a strong 6–2 victory at No. 2 doubles, while Graham Bourne and Johan Van Wijk matched that score with a 6–2 win at the No. 3 position to clinch the point for the Runnin' Bulldogs. The No. 1 doubles match featuring Kaua Cressoni and Boyd Schreiber was left unfinished with Gardner-Webb leading 4–3.
Gardner-Webb added three singles victories to secure the overall match.
At the top of the lineup, Alexandre Bergeron delivered a clutch performance, defeating Albert Saar in three sets 6–1, 4–6, 6–3 to clinch the deciding point for the Runnin' Bulldogs.
Boyd Schreiber controlled his match at No. 2 singles with a 6–2, 6–2 straight-set win over Gregoire Delattre, while Noah Zeiger earned another key point with a 7–6 (7–4), 6–2 victory at the No. 3 spot.
Gardner-Webb returns to the courts on Saturday, March 21, traveling to Clinton, S.C. to take on Presbyterian in Big South Conference action. First serve is set for 12 p.m.
