FAYETTEVILLE, ARK - Representing Gardner-Webb in shot put on Saturday at the 2026 NCAA Division I Indoor National Championships, senior Quentin Peterson achieved the highest finish in program history at a national event, finishing 13th and earning Second Team All-American honors
Competing against a stacked field largely of power conference athletes, Peterson became the first Gardner-Webb male athlete to ever compete at Indoor Nationals in shot put, and first Gardner-Webb athlete to do so overall since 2014. Peterson recorded three throws, his first 18.68 meters, his second 18.92 meters, and his third 18.06 meters. With his mark of 18.92 going on the board, Peterson achieved a 13th place finish
As one of the nation's top 16 performers in the event, Peterson achieves All-American status, becoming the highest finisher at a national competition in Gardner-Webb history. This adds to Peterson's long list of Gardner-Webb and Big South accolades as a now a Second Team All-American, on top of back-to-back Big South Indoor Championships in weight throw and shot put, and the 2026 Big South Men's Most Outstanding Performance award
After a massively successful indoor season, Peterson and Gardner-Webb return to action on the weekend of March 20th, starting outdoor season at the 49er Classic at UNC Charlotte
