Boyer Leads Runnin' Bulldogs With Top 10 Finish at ECU Intercollegiate

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Senior Jack Boyer collected a top 10 finish while the Gardner-Webb men's golf team concluded the ECU Intercollegiate with a strong showing, placing fifth overall with a team score of 896 (+32) against a competitive Division I field.

Boyer set the tone early for the Runnin' Bulldogs, carding a 1-under, 71 in his opening round before shooting 73 (+1) and 75 (+3) over his final 36 holes.

As a team, Gardner-Webb opened tournament play with back-to-back combined scores of 296 (+8) before concluding the 54-hole event with a total of 304 (+16).

UNC Wilmington took home the team crown after a combined team score of 868 (+4), edging host East Carolina by 10 strokes. St. John's and UCF rounded out the top 4 with team scores of 885 (+21) and 887 (+23), respectively.

Bradley Davis Jr. started strong at the tournament, sitting in second place on the individual leaderboard after opening rounds of 70 (-2) and 71 (-1). However, a third-round score of 84 (+12) put him in a tie for 25th overall.

Brandon Heffner finished four strokes behind Davis Jr. in a tie for 35th after a 54-hole combined score of 229 (+13). His best effort came in round two, firing a 3-over, 75.

Jude Carper and Reed Burton matched each other with a finishing score of 231 (+15), good enough for a 45th-place tie. Carper showed improvement over his three rounds, cutting two strokes from his score in rounds one and two.

UNCW's Gray Mitchum took home individual medalist honors after sitting atop the leaderboard with a 54-hole score of 213 (-3).

Gardner-Webb will return to the links on March 27-29, heading to Snow Hill, N.C. to compete in the Cutter Creek Intercollegiate.
