Runnin' Bulldogs Drop Low-Scoring Series Finale at Winthrop

ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Gardner-Webb softball team (23-12, 3-3 Big South) dropped its series finale at Winthrop (18-15, 4-2 Big South) on Saturday afternoon in a low-scoring game, 3-2

Down a run in the second, Gardner-Webb was able to manufacture a run to tie the game. Freshman right fielder LY Forte reached on a fielder's choice, allowing senior first baseman Maggie Knight to score unearned. After two innings, GWU and Winthrop were tied 1-1

Locked in a pitcher's dual, freshman right hander Glenna McLamb was excellent for Gardner-Webb. McLamb tossed 6.0 innings on Saturday, the majority scoreless. She allowed three runs in total, scattering eight hits and striking out eight

McLamb's great outing allowed Gardner-Webb to take the lead in the top of the sixth. Knight stepped back to the plate and drove an RBI single up the middle, putting the Runnin' Bulldogs in front 2-1

Winthrop hit back in the bottom of the sixth however. The Eagles got a two-run home run, turning the game around with one swing to put Gardner-Webb in a 3-2 hole

The Runnin' Bulldogs went three up, three down in the third as Winthrop closed out the series, downing Gardner-Webb by a 3-2 final

At the plate, Knight finished an excellent series by going 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI, while senior designated player Alli Stidham was the other Runnin' Bulldog with multiple hits, also going 2-for-3
