Runnin' Bulldogs Extend Win Streak to Seven After 5-2 Decision at Davidson

| By:

DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb men's tennis team delivered a strong road performance on Sunday afternoon, defeating Davidson, 5–2, at the Davidson Tennis Courts. The victory pushes the Runnin' Bulldogs to 12–3 on the season.

Despite dropping the doubles point, the Runnin' Bulldogs responded with a dominant showing in singles play, claiming five of the six matches to secure the team win.

"Davidson was better than us in doubles but we rebounded and started quick in singles, which turned the match to ours to lose", said head coach Mike Griffith.

Gardner-Webb quickly took control once singles began. Alexandre Bergeron set the tone at the top spot with a convincing 6–2, 6–1 victory over Goyo Hidalgo. Noah Zeiger followed with a decisive 6–2, 6–2 win against Davide Procacci at No. 2 singles, while Boyd Schreiber continued the Runnin' Bulldogs' momentum with a 6–1, 6–3 victory over Kai Villagomez in the third position.

After Davidson picked up its lone singles point at No. 4, Gardner-Webb closed the door in the final two matches. Johan Van Wijk rebounded after dropping the second set to defeat Connor Cole 6–3, 2–6, 6–2 in a three-set battle at No. 5. The clinching point came from Graham Bourne, who battled through a pair of tight sets to defeat Charlie Ratiff 7–5, 7–5 at No. 6 singles.

Davidson claimed the doubles point earlier in the afternoon with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, while the match at No. 1 doubles was left unfinished.

Gardner-Webb returns to the courts on Friday, April 3, traveling to face the Bulldogs of UNC Asheville in a Big South contest. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
