| By:

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb University women's tennis team battled tough competition Tuesday afternoon but ultimately fell to Coastal Carolina University, 7–0, at the Webb Tennis Complex.

In doubles play, the Runnin' Bulldogs opened the match with a hard-fought effort at the No. 2 position as Emma Shasteen and Alizée Poulin pushed Coastal Carolina to the brink before falling in a tight 7–6 decision. Natalie Crawford and Valeria Lloclla also competed at the top doubles spot but were defeated 6–3, giving the Chanticleers the early doubles advantage.

Gardner-Webb continued to compete throughout singles play despite the final score. Crawford highlighted the Runnin' Bulldogs' effort at No. 3 singles, claiming the opening set 6–3 before forcing a decisive match tiebreaker. After dropping the second set, she battled to the end before narrowly falling 11–9 in the tiebreak.

Poulin faced a strong opponent at No. 1 singles, while Lloclla fought through two competitive sets at the No. 4 position. Shasteen was forced to retire early in her match at No. 2 singles due to injury.
