KENNESAW, Ga. - Gardner-Webb men's tennis battled through a tightly contested road match on Saturday afternoon but ultimately fell 5–2 at Kennesaw State at the Betty Siegel Courts.
The Runnin' Bulldogs opened the afternoon by claiming the doubles point with strong performances on courts two and three. Graham Bourne and Johan Van Wijk delivered a convincing 6–2 win at No. 2 doubles, and the tandem of Alexandre Bergeron and Noah Zeiger followed with a 6–3 victory at No. 3 to secure the early 1–0 lead for Gardner-Webb.
In singles play, Bergeron continued his dominant day at the top of the lineup. The sophomore controlled his match from start to finish, defeating Ben Hudson 6–1, 6–2 at No. 1 singles to give the Runnin' Bulldogs their second team point.
Kennesaw State responded by winning the remaining singles contests, several of which were tightly contested. Boyd Schreiber pushed Dominic Ducariu to three sets at No. 3 singles, battling to a second-set tiebreak win before falling 7–5, 6–7 (2–7), 6–2 in the decider. Kaua Cressoni also forced a third set at No. 5 singles after taking the opening frame 6–1, but ultimately dropped a narrow 1–6, 7–6 (7–1), 6–3 result.
Graham Bourne split the first two sets at No. 6 singles before Kennesaw State pulled away in the third, while Johan Van Wijk and Noah Zeiger both fought through competitive opening sets in their matches at Nos. 4 and 2, respectively.
