Runnin' Bulldogs Take Two From Belmont Abbey

BELMONT, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb (15-5) men's tennis team wrapped up the 2025-26 regular season with a pair of victories over Belmont Abbey College on Monday afternoon. The Runnin' Bulldogs controlled the first match, winning 6-1 before taking match two, 5-0, which was called due to darkness.

Gardner-Webb set the tone early by securing the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. The duo of Noah Zeiger and Alexandre Bergeron earned a convincing 6–2 victory, while Johan Van Wijk and Graham Bourne followed with a dominant 6–1 win to give the Runnin' Bulldogs the early advantage.

In singles play, Gardner-Webb continued to control the match by claiming five of the six courts. Boyd Schreiber extended the lead with a 6–4, 6–1 victory at No. 2 singles, and Van Wijk followed with a commanding 6–0, 6–2 win on court three. Kaua Cressoni added another point with a steady 6–2, 6–2 performance at No. 4 singles.

Two tightly contested matches helped seal the result for the Runnin' Bulldogs. At the top spot, Zeiger battled through a three-set thriller, defeating Cameron Simpson 6–4, 5–7, 1–0 (9–7) in a match tiebreak. Adam Patry also fought back after dropping the opening set to win 3–6, 6–3, 1–0 (11–9) at No. 5 singles.

Belmont Abbey picked up its lone point at No. 6 singles, where Brody Sawyer defeated Graham Bourne 6–4, 6–3, but the Bulldogs had already secured the decisive points.

Gardner-Webb opened the match by sweeping all three doubles courts to quickly take the doubles point. Boyd Schreiber and Kaua Cressoni set the tone with a 6–2 win at the top position, while Adam Patry and Alexandre Bergeron followed with a hard-fought 7–6 (11–9) victory at No. 2 doubles. Billy Mac Clement and Nicholas Reis completed the sweep with a commanding 6–1 win on court three, giving the Runnin' Bulldogs early momentum.

The Bulldogs carried that momentum into singles play, winning four completed matches to clinch the team result. Noah Zeiger earned a 6–2, 6–3 victory at No. 2 singles, while Johan Van Wijk matched that scoreline with a strong performance at No. 3 singles. Kaua Cressoni added another point with a 6–1, 6–3 win on court four, and Nicholas Reis sealed the fifth point with a gritty 6–4, 7–6 (7–3) victory at No. 5 singles.

Two additional singles matches were still in progress when play was halted due to darkness. Alexandre Bergeron led his match at No. 1 singles after taking the first set 7–5, while Billy Mac Clement was locked in a tight battle at No. 6 singles.
