CULLOWHEE, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb track and team was in action on Friday afternoon at the Catamount Classic, competing in the single-day event
Gardner-Webb Webb was excellent in both the men's and women's 100 meter dash. In the men's race, sophomore Joshua Powell finished a strong fourth with a time of 11.03 seconds, while in the women's race, freshman Syke Jackson was fifth with a personal best 11.93 seconds
Jackson continued an excellent day in the women's 200 meters, winning that race with another personal best, and doing so with a time of 24.02 seconds. Powell did so as well in men's long jump, posting a mark of 7.36 meters to win the event
Sophomore Hope Smith was impressive for GWU in the women's 400 meters. Smith crossed the line in 55.99 seconds to finish second overall
The men's 400 meter hurdles saw two records fall. In second place, senior TJ Peebles was second with a school record 53.93 meters. Then in fifth, sophomore Micah Morales set a personal best at 54.90 seconds
Freshman Laura Covarrubias took the top spot in the women's 400 meter hurdles. Covarrubias was more than impressive, winning with a time of 1:01.67 and with a personal best time
Another school record went down in the women's 800 meters. Senior Jessica Perriello was fifth in the event, doing so by way of a time of 2:15.18
Freshman duo Maggie Dirks and Brendan Athy added to the list of personal records as well on Friday. Dirks did so in the women's 1500 meters with a time of 4:45.31, while Athy did so in the men's 5000 meters with a time of 16:33.11
Defending her freshman of the week crown, freshman Hannah Hoffman won the women's discus throw again. This time, Hoffman put down a mark of 47.11 meters. Junior Zoie Johnson was third for GWU at 45.15 meters, while junior Gracie Wilson was fourth at 44.37 meters. Hoffman was also second in women's hammer throw with a mark of 52.07 meters
Senior Jacoby Johnson was just shy of the top of the leaderboard in the men's discus throw. Johnson was scored in second with a mark of 49.54 meters
Senior Robert Joseph Jr. and senior Quentin Peterson were second and third in the men's hammer throw. Joseph Jr. was second with a mark of 56.08 meters, while Peterson was third with a mark of 53.14 meters
Sophomore Paige Boyd picked up a win in the women's high jump. Boyd did so with a mark of 1.68 meters. On the men's side, junior Jonathan Timpson was second with a mark of 2.00 meters flat
Competing in men's shot put, sophomore Magnum Chestnut was second for GWU. Chestnut recorded a mark of 15.88 meters in the event
Wrapping up the day, the Runnin' Bulldogs scored three more individual wins. In the women's shot put, senior Adrionna Coleman was first with a mark of 13.13 meters, while freshman Ella Riggs was second at 12.84 meters. In the men's triple jump, freshman Donovan Richardson won with a mark of 14.67 meters. Lastly, Teandra Clemons won the women's triple jump with a mark of 12.55 meters. Clemons is inside the top 100 for the NCAA Division I this season
