Runnin' Bulldogs Sweep Converse in Saturday Dual Meet To Open Season

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. —The Gardner-Webb swimming teams swept Converse in the season-opening dual meet Saturday at Bost Pool, with the women earning a 133-60 victory and the men posting a 125-68 win over the Valkyries.Â
The Runnin' Bulldogs opened the meet with victories in both 200-yard medley relays. Kaitlyn Estes, Dakota Townley, Jenna Valentine and Slawka Ndubuisi won the women's relay in 1:48.35, while Carter Redelman, Leonardo Bergomi, Porter Lane and Jacob Jensen captured the men's event in 1:33.83. Valentine added a victory in the women's 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:55.57, while Jack Martin won the men's event in 1:42.94. Ndubuisi also claimed the women's 50-yard freestyle in 23.83 seconds, with Jensen taking the men's event in 21.74.
Madison Richardson led a Gardner-Webb sweep of the women's 200-yard IM in 2:13.30, followed by Jillian Hawkins and Townley. Jojo Frye won the men's 200-yard IM in 1:59.81, with Jake Thomas and Dan Bennett finishing second and third.
Hawkins picked up another victory in the women's 100-yard butterfly at 59.57 seconds, while Aaron Willis led a Gardner-Webb sweep of the men's 100-yard butterfly in 52.16. Richardson also won the women's 100-yard freestyle in 54.65, and Martin claimed the men's 100-yard freestyle in 46.59.
In the distance events, Evie Houston won both the women's 1000-yard freestyle (11:15.09) and 500-yard freestyle (5:32.07), while Luke Weber captured the men's 1000-yard freestyle in 10:09.65.
Gardner-Webb closed the meet with victories in both 200-yard freestyle relays. The women's team of Valentine, Hawkins, Richardson and Ndubuisi finished in 1:38.20, while Martin, Willis, Jonny Fraccola and Jensen posted a winning time of 1:25.81.
