Former GWU men's tennis standout, Rafael Altmayer joins head
coach Mike Griffith's staff as a volunteer assistant coach in2011-12.
Altmayer, who played for Coach Griffith and the Runnin'
Bulldogs from 2007-10, was named to the Big South DoublesAll-Conference Team
in 2009, winning eight matches alongside fellow teammate EvgenySlesarev at the
No. 1 doubles positions.
In 2010, his senior season at GWU, Altmayer posted a 15-11
overall record and a 6-2 conference record in singlesplay. He also recorded a 15-10 overall
doubles record with Slesarev at the No. 1 doubles spot.
The versatile player played at five different positions
during his time at GWU and was strong in the classroom, twicebeing named to
the Big South Presidential Honor Roll, the Big SouthAll-Academic Team and once to the Atlantic Sun All-Academic
Team.
Altmayer, who came to GWU in January 2007, graduated in May
2010 with a B.S. degree in Economics and Finance.
