Drew Ellwanger

Former Gardner-Webb men’s swimming standout Drew Ellwanger will begin his second season as an assistant coach in 2018-19.

Ellwanger returns to Gardner-Webb after a two-year stint IUPUI where he served as an assistant coach.

Prior to his time at IUPUI, Ellwanger was a Strength and Conditioning Graduate Assistant at NCAA Division II University of Tampa.

Ellwanger also completed strength and conditioning internship at the University of Georgia in the summer of 2012.

From 2013-2015, he was a member of the coaching staff for the Rockdale Riptides where he served as the practice coordinator and assistant coach.

Ellwanger swam at Gardner-Webb for head coach Mike Simpson from 2009-2013. Over his career he was a two-time CCSA champion in the 100-yard breaststroke. Ellwanger was also a four-time CCSA All-Conference member.

Ellwanger graduated from Gardner-Webb with a B.S. in Health and Wellness and earned his Master of Science in Exercise and Nutrition Science from the University of Tampa.

He holds his USA Swimming certification and is also a certified Strength and Conditioning specialist.
