Gardner-Webb University Athletics

McKenzie Morenus enters her first year as Assistant SoftballCoach at Gardner-Webb in 2014-15, after serving the last two yearsas Director of Softball Operations.

A two-time Big South All-Conference honoree, earning First-Teamhonors in 2010 and Second-Team recognition in 2012, Morenus wasalso named to the 2012 Big South Softball ChampionshipAll-Tournament Team and was both a 2012 NCCSIA All-State UniversityDivision State-Team nominee and a 2012 National Fastpitch CoachesAssociation All-Region nominee.

The catcher and designated player was named the Team’sMost Valuable Offensive Player in 2012 and the Team’s MostValuable Defensive Player in 2011.  Morenus posted 20 RBI ormore in each of her four years, totaled 15 or more extra base hitsin each of her final three years at GWU and increased her home runtotal each and every season.

A four-year starter behind the plate for Coach Cole from2009-12, Morenus played in 192 games, starting 191 of thosecontests.  She finished her career ranked second inGWU’s Division I history in career home runs with 22, tiedfor second in career RBI with 107 and ranked third in runnerscaught stealing with 38 putouts of would be basestealers. 

She also finished her career ranked fifth in Gardner-WebbSoftball’s Division I career record books with 53 careerextra base hits, sixth with 29 career doubles, sixth with 251career total bases and eighth with 52 career walks.

Morenus graduated with her undergraduate degree in Biology inAugust 2012. She graduated in August 2014 with a Master’sdegree in Sports Science & Pedagogy at Gardner-Webb.
