Jon Debogory

Jon Debogory is entering his third year as an assistant coach at Gardner-Webb University.

Prior to joining the GWU track and field staff, Debogory brings a wealth of coaching experience at the collegiate level, working with athletes at North Carolina (2016-18), Eastern Michigan (2013-15), Columbia (2012-13), Sacred Heart (2008-11), Campbell (2006-07) and Lynchburg College (2004).
 
“We are extremely excited to have Jon join our staff,” stated Gardner-Webb track and field head coach Brian Baker. “We are pleased to have a coach with his skillset come here and look forward to him working with us and our student-athletes.”
 
At North Carolina, Debogory worked with jumps, multi events, pole vault, javelin, and hammer throw, totaling two NCAA Final Round qualifiers, nine NCAA Preliminary Round qualifiers, and one ACC individual champion during his tenure.
 
At Eastern Michigan, Debogory worked with five NCAA All-Americans, ten NCAA Preliminary Round qualifiers and multiple MAC individual champions, overseeing all field and multi events.
 
Prior to his stint at Eastern Michigan, Debogory spent two years as an assistant at Columbia, working with jumps, multi events, and throws.  There, he worked with six NCAA Preliminary Round qualifiers and numerous Ivy League individual champions.
 
Debogory also spent four years as an assistant coach at Sacred Heart, working with jumps, throws and multi events.  He was part of the 2011 NEC Outdoor Coaching Staff of the Year and directed ten NCAA Preliminary Round qualifiers and 12 NEC individual champions while being part of three NEC team championships.
 
He also was an assistant for two years at Campbell, where he was responsible for training jumps, throws, and hurdles while earning his Masters of Education with a concentration in exercise physiology.  There he worked with one NCAA national qualifier, five NCAA Preliminary Round qualifiers, and multiple school record holders.
 
His coaching career began at Lynchburg College in 2004, where he spent one year working with throws, jumps, and multi events.  There he directed three NCAA All-Americans and five school record holders while leading the team to an ODAC team championship.
 
Debogory graduated from Liberty University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 2002.  There, he was a standout member of the Flames’ track and field team, being named to the Big South Conference’s Indoor Track & Field All-Decade team for the 2000s as a sprinter.
