Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb wrestling team posted five wins overall on Saturday night, however, suffered two falls over the other five bouts to fall to the North Carolina State Wolfpack 22-16 in dual match action in Paul Porter Arena.

The loss drops GWU to 2-6 in dual match action, while N.C. State improves to 3-0 with the win.

N.C. State took an early match lead, as the Wolfpack's Joe DeAngelo and Tyler Hunt each posted falls at 125 and 141 pounds to help the visitors pull out to a 15-0 lead after three bouts.

After a major decision loss for GWU at 149 pounds pushed the Wolfpack in front at 19-0, redshirt-senior Alex Medved controlled the match at 157 pounds from start to finish to record an 11-2 major decision win over Matthew Nereim of State to put the Runnin' Bulldogs on the scoreboard.

GWU's next win would come at 174 pounds, as freshman Hunter Gamble blanked Patrick Davis 5-0 to earn the win and put the match score at 22-7 in favor of N.C. State.

With three matches to go, GWU's Gray Jones followed up Gamble's win with a 5-2 decision of his own, scoring two late two-point takedowns in the third period to defeat Keegan Cerwinski and put the match score at 22-10 in favor of the Wolfpack.

At 197 pounds, redshirt-senior Blake Salyer continued GWU's winning ways, as he held on to earn a 3-2 decision over William Cook to put the score at 22-13 with one match remaining.

Despite the match outcome already settled in favor of N.C. State heading into the final bout, GWU's Travis Porter earned a 1-0 shutout win over Mike Kosoy to put the final match score at 22-16.

Gardner-Webb (2-6, 0-2 SoCon) will return to competition in 10 days, as the Runnin' Bulldog grapplers will host Davidson on Tuesday, January 22nd, at 7 p.m. in Paul Porter Arena.
