
GWU Women Take 13th, Men 14th At Blue Ridge Open

BOONE, N.C. The Gardner-Webb women's cross country team notched a 13th-place finish at the Blue Ridge Open Friday evening while the men took 14th in arguably their toughest and most competitive meet of the season.
Leading the way for GWU was sophomore Abby Callahan. Callahan was 44th overall but finished 41st in points after crossing the finish line of the 5k in 19:29, recording a 6:17 mile pace throughout.
The next Bulldog to cross was rookie Laura Scott. She managed to maintain a 6:37 mile pace to finish at 20:34. Scott was 97th overall but was 78th in terms of points.
Not too far behind her was a pair of GWU juniors. Beth Long notched 106th (85th in points) and Bree Tharpe in 108th (87th in points). Long and Tharpe finished in 20:43 and 20:45, respectively.
Diana Palka and Allye Littrell were the other two Bulldogs that counted in terms of scoring. Palka, a freshman, was 131st overall and 101 in the scoring. She had a time of 21:14. Littrell took 151st overall and 110th in scoring. Littrell crossed the line in 21:59 for GWU.
Senior Lucas McAneney led the way for GWU as he took 34th in the 8k run and was 31st in scoring. He finished in 25:34, recording a 5:09 mile pace.
Following McAneney was upperclassman Joshua Hudson. Hudson garnered a time of 26:04 for 57th overall. He was 43rd in terms of scoring, averaging a 5:15 mile.
Senior Alex Nimmo was 79th in scoring and 18th overall. Nimmo crossed the line in 27:09.
Timothy Israel, Charles Steinke, Justin Keziah and Erin Goodrum all competed for head coach Brian Baker's team. Israel was 136th overall (97th in scoring) while Steinke took 154th overall and 105th in scoring.
Keziah was 111th in scoring and 166th overall while Goodrum crossed in 30:04 for 197th overall and 123rd overall.
The Bulldogs are now off until Oct. 27, when they will try to
win the A-Sun Championship in Nashville, Tenn.
