CHARLESTON, S.C. After being in sixth
place after the first day of competition, the Gardner-Webb men's
golf team faltered in the final round and dropped into a tie for
seventh on the final day of the Charleston Southern Fall
Invitational.
Part of the problem could be attributed to the weather, as
conditions were significantly more difficult than the previous
day.
GWU tied with fellow Atlantic Sun Conference member Jacksonville
for seventh. Each team shot a 912, with the Bulldogs shooting four
more strokes than the Dolphins in the final round, resulting in the
tie.
GWU was led by Blake Palmer's sixth-place finish, as he notched
a three-round total of 222. Palmer shot a seven-over par on the
final day, 10 strokes more than he shot in the second round.
The only other Bulldog to post a top-20 score was Andrew
Rickard. Rickard, rather consistent throughout the tournament, shot
a four-over par, 76, over the final 18 holes. His three-round score
was a 225.
The men's team is back in action Nov. 4-5 at the WCU
Intercollegiate, which is hosted by the Catamounts.
