CHARLOTTE, N.C. The Gardner-Webb men's and women's swim programs swept the CCSA weekly awards, as announced by the CCSA office Tuesday afternoon, after two solid days of competition last week.
Senior Heather Roka was named the CCSA Swimmer of the Week for the women after earning two first-place finishes and two second-place finishes, helping the Bulldogs to a dual meet win and a first-place showing at the Wingate Invitational.
On Nov. 9, Roka started off by winning the 1,000 free in a time of 10:27.33, which is the second-best time in the league. Roka posted a personal-best time in the 400 IM, touching the wall in 4:43.89. Against Catawba and Wingate, she came in second in the 200 fly, narrowly missing a first-place showing. Her time of 2:09.78 is the second best in that event among CCSA times.
Rookie Steven Caudill continued his hot streak during his first year, and it paid off by being named CCSA Swimmer of the Week for the men. He notched two first-place finishes, two second-place showings, two second-place relay finishes and broke two school records in the meets against Davidson, Catawba and Wingate.
His time of 4:17.02 in the 400 IM established a school record and toped all CCSA swimmers by nearly four seconds. He took second in the very next event, the 100 fly, finishing in 53.59. In his final event of the day, he helped the Bulldogs 200 free relay team to a second-place showing. On Saturday, he helped the 400-medley relay team take second. Caudill also took second in the 200 IM, finishing in a time of 2:01.38. In the final event of the day for him, Caudill posted a school-record time of 2:00.37 in the 200 fly.
