GWU Men To Open Season Tuesday Afternoon
November 05, 2007 | Men's Basketball
LEXINGTON, Ky. Having already played in some of the
nation's great college basketball venues, Gardner-Webb has seen it
all since moving to Division I in 2000.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will add another famed hoops hall to its
basketball resume on Tuesday, as they face Alabama A&M in
Kentucky's Rupp Arena in the first round of the 2K Sports College
Hoops Classic.
Tip is set for 4 pm ET on Tuesday, the earliest season opener for
Gardner-Webb since its move to the Division I level. The game will
mark the third time since 2003 that GWU has opened in a preseason
tournament, but the first time that the Dogs haven't played a
team from the high-major ranks in the opening round.
Top-seed and No. 21 Kentucky will play Central Arkansas at 7 pm ET
Tuesday in the first round nightcap. The two games' winners will
play Wednesday at 9 pm ET on ESPNU. The two losers will play at 6
pm ET in the consolation round Wednesday.
Gardner-Webb welcomes back four starters from last season, but
Tuesday's opening lineup is expected to have a different look
with the emergence of junior college All-America transfer
Aaron Linn (6-3, Jr.) at guard and Indiana prep sensation Nate
Blank (6-4, Fr.) at forward.
Tuesday's game will be carried live on WGWG (88.3 FM) and via the
Internet on the station's website (wgwg.org).
