Lady Bulldogs Fall at Home to Jacksonville 5-2

Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team lost only their second home match of the season on Tuesday afternoon, as they fell to Atlantic Sun foe Jacksonville 5-2.
Jacksonville came off the bus ready to play as they swept the Lady Bulldogs in doubles play, taking an early 1-0 lead.
Gardner-Webb, who was coming off a road win at Lipscomb last Saturday, once again tried to battle back from an early 1-0 deficit but were denied by the Dolphins in singles play. Jacksonville went on to take four of the six singles bouts, ultimatley defeating the Bulldogs 5-2.
Sophomore Amy Beavers continued her winning ways at the No. 5 position, as she defeated Fernanda Carrero of JU in three sets, 6-1, 2-6, 6-4. The win was Beavers third straight victory.
Junior Carol Pancia also picked up a win for the 'Dogs on Tuesday afternoon, as she crusied in her match against Cristina Paiva-Flor, winning in straight sets 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 6 spot.
Sophomore Jenny Gomez and freshman Laura Kriett both had their winning streaks snapped, as Gomez fell to 6-1 at the No. 3 spot with her 6-1, 6-2 loss to Tatiana Soldatova of Jacksonville and Kriett fell at the No. 1 position to Emese Sulyos 6-0, 6-1.
With the loss the Lady Bulldogs fall to 2-5 in conference play and 6-10 overall.
The Lady Bulldogs will be back in action tomorrow afternoon, March 21, as they will step out of Atlantic Sun conference play to take on the Mountaineers of Appalachian State in Boone, N.C. The match is scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m.
