Thompson Breaks School Record; Longshore Has Solid Effort On Last Day Of Duke Invitational

DURHAM, N.C. – Not too long after Elizabeth Maxwell recorded a school record in the discus, Brieanna Thompson bested it as the field event competitors on both the men's and women's side had good performances on the last day of the Duke Invitational.
Maxwell recorded a throw of 39.52m (129'8") in the preliminaries for the school record, but Thompson bested her mark with a record-setting toss of 39.74m (130'4") to place 20th overall.
Maxwell also had a solid day in the shot put event, posting a 12th-place finish with a heave of 12.73m (41'9.25").
On the men's side, Jeremy Longshore vaulted 4.75m (15'7") to tie for the best height, but finished second due to jumps.
Matt Knippen narrowly missed his school-record effort in the shot put, recording a mark of 15.81m (51'10.50") to finish third. Teammate Michael Buckshaw took home 14th place with a toss of 14.14m (46'4.75").
In the discus, senior Cody MacArthur had a top-10 performance with a mark of 45.46m (149'2") to place sixth while Buckshaw took 12th with an effort of 42.74m (140'3").
The Bulldogs return to action on Apr. 13 when they make another trip to Boone, N.C., for the Appalachian State Invitational.
