Gardner-Webb Women Finish Fourth At A-Sun Outdoor Championship

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The Gardner-Webb women's track and field team finished fourth at the A-Sun Championships, but had two student-athletes qualify for the NCAA East Regional meet, which will be May 25-26 in Gainesville, Fla.
Elizabeth Maxwell was named the meet's Most Outstanding Field Performer for her efforts. On the final day of the competition, she won the shot put with a heave of 12.99m (42'7.50") – she gets an automatic bid to the NCAA East Regional Championships for winning the event - while also taking third in the javelin (36.23m – 118'10") and fourth in the discus (36.50m – 119'9").
Victoria Argus also qualified for the NCAA East Regional by posting a winning mark and new conference record in the heptathlon of 4,105 points.
Caryn Daane also helped the Bulldogs' point total by garnering a second-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 12.71m (41'8.50").
Sophomore Sarah Wyszynski took second in the javelin after a throw of 36.98m (121'4") while rookie Ashley Hall was sixth – 30.01m (98'5").
Bree Tharpe earned all-conference honors in the 3,000m steeplechase by crossing the line in 12:30.98. Abby Callahan also had a good performance in the 1,500m by taking fifth in a time of 4:57.02.
In addition to Maxwell's fourth-place finish in the discus, Brieanna Thompson recorded a fifth-place mark with a throw of 36.24m (118'11").
