Former Bulldog Williams Starting For NFL Europe's Frankfurt Galaxy

FRANKFURT, Germany – Former Gardner-Webb All-America Demario Williams is now starting at strong safety for NFL Europe's top team, the Frankfurt Galaxy, and is putting up very good numbers.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pounder is in his second season with the Galaxy, and has started the past two games for a team that currently sits in first place at 5-2 in the NFL Europe standings.

Williams (Ninety Six, S.C.) has registered 18 total tackles, two pass break ups and an interception in his four games on defense, including an average of 6.0 hits per game since moving into the starting lineup against Berlin two weekends ago.

In his first start against the rival Berlin Thunder, Williams finished with 10 total tackles (nine defensive, one special teams), an interception and a pass break up. After his second quarter interception of former Montana State All-America Travis Lulay, Williams dashed 33 yards into Berlin territory, setting up a Frankfurt touchdown.

Williams started for the Galaxy last season in the 2006 World Bowl, as Frankfurt won the NFL Europe Championship. Williams finished the 2006 season with 22 total tackles.

He remains hopeful of landing a roster spot with an NFL team following the 2007 NFL Europe season.

Williams was a two-time All-America selection during his time at Gardner-Webb, earning Big South Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2002 and 2003. His senior season was cut short by injury in 2004, when he was named a candidate for the Buck Buchanan Award – the top defensive award nationally for the Division I Football Championship Subdivision (formerly I-AA). The former Ninety Six (S.C.) High star finished his career at GWU with 326 career tackles and 35 career pass break ups.
