BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. Men's soccer
assistant coach Jason Osborne has been selected to play for Great
Britain at the 24th World University Games in Bangkok, Thailand
August 8-18.
"It's an honor to represent Great Britain at the World
University Games," Osborne said. "I appreciate Gardner-Webb for
allowing me to have the opportunity to represent my country.
Osborne, an integral part of the coaching staff that led the
Bulldogs to their first-ever NCAA Tournament berth in 2006, is part
of the 20-man roster for Great Britain its largest ever team
for this competition.
The team opens competition in Group D on Aug. 7, a day before
the opening ceremonies, with a match against Mexico. The squad also
plays Morocco Aug. 9 and Kazakhstan Aug. 11.
Osborne was added to the team because of his experience and will
help mentor the younger players.
"We are extremely proud of Jason," Gardner-Webb head men's
soccer coach said. "Our team will miss him during preseason
practice, but it is an opportunity that Jason could not pass up. We
are extremely excited for him."
The Bulldogs have a preseason exhibition at Appalachian State on
Aug. 25 before beginning the 2007 at High Point on Aug. 31 at 7
p.m.
