Women's Tennis Team Makes Showing at ETSU's Fall Tournament
September 26, 2007 | Women's Tennis
Part of the Gardner-Webb women's tennis team traveled to Eastern
Tennessee State University this past weekend to play in ETSU's Fall
Tournament. Representing the Bulldogs were Allie Mills, Monica
Walser, and Amy Beavers. All three would enter as singles and the
team of Beavers/Walser would enter as doubles.
Mills did not fair so well in the first round and had to retire in
the second set do to injury. The injury proved to be vital because
it held her out of her next round matches, and she was forced to
retire from the tournament.
Walser had a decent showing in the tournament; bouncing back with a
second round win of 6-3, 7-6 (3) after losing her opening match
6-2, 2-6, 3-6.
Beavers had the best showing of the three Bulldogs. She won her
opening match 6-2, 6-2 to advance to the winner's side of the
bracket. She lost her second match 4-6, 4-6, but went on to win the
consolation match by default.
The doubles competition proved to be tough for the Bulldogs.
Beavers and Walser battled hard but lost in all three of the
matches they played. The tournament did prove beneficial for the
team, in that the harder competition will only help them learn and
get ready for conference play.
