September 26, 2007 | Women's Tennis
Two members of the Gardner-Webb women's tennis team headed to NC
State this past weekend to play in the Residence Inn North WolfPack
Invitational. The tournament was comprised of many top-notch
players from major universities around the Southeast. Representing
the Bulldogs were Laura Kriett and Jenny Gomez. They both would
enter as singles and as a doubles team.
Kriett put in a good showing in the tournament but could not manage
a win. She lost her first round match 3-6, 1-6 to the number one
seeded Mirela Gol of ECU. In her second round match Kriett did
better but lost 4-6, 2-6.
Gomez, however, won her first round match, 6-1, 6-0 ,in dominating
fashion. In her second round match she took the first set 6-3, but
could't keep up the momentum. She lost the next two sets, 3-6, 3-6,
and lost the match.
In doubles, Gomez and Kriett won their first match, 8-1, with no
sweat. However, the tides changed in the second round when they
fell 2-8. Both ladies played well in the tournament, and will take
their experiences as motivation and determination for the upcoming
conference play.
