
Bulldogs In First At Davidson College Invitational

DAVIDSON, N.C. After the first day of competition at the Davidson College Invitational, the Gardner-Webb men's golf team stands in first place of the two-day tournament in the eight-team field.
The Bulldogs combined to shoot a scorching first-round 291, giving the squad an eight-stroke advantage over the second-place Wildcats of Davidson. GWU fired a second-round tally of 302 for a first-day total of 593. The Bulldogs are currently three strokes ahead of Army and four ahead of Davidson. The only other Big South school in the field is Charleston Southern, which currently stands in sixth place after a first-day total of 614.
Leading the way for the Red and Black is Andrew Rickard, who is currently tied for second on the par-72 course. Rickard is currently two-over par after shooting an even-par over the first 18 holes and firing a 74 in the second round for a 146.
Two strokes behind him is Scott Wheeler, who shot identical an identical 74-74 for a 148. Wheeler is tied for sixth.
Senior Blake Palmer is the third GWU student-athlete to make the top-10 having shot a first-day 149. Palmer opened with a 74 before shooting a three-over par 75 over the final 18.
Ryan Bell and Immu
Korvenmaa are both in the top-20. Bell is tied for 15th after
shooting a first-day 151 (72-79) while Korvenmaa posted a 153
(73-80). Korvenmaa stands in a tie for 20th place.
The Bulldogs return to action Tuesday morning when they hit the
links for the final 18 holes.
