
Garnder-Webb Women Run Well At Blue Ridge Open, Two GWU Men Post Personal-Best Times

BOONE, N.C. The Gardner-Webb women's cross country team posted a 22nd-place finish while the men took 25th Friday evening at the Blue Ridge Open.
On the men's side, two established personal-best times. Rookie Nick
Kelly put in a superb effort over the 8k course. He posted a
personal-best mark of 26:33. Fellow GWU newcomer Jason Wenzel also
notched a personal-best time after crossing the line in 28:47.
Not too far behind him was Tim Israel. Israel crossed the line in
29:03 while Charles Steinke took home a time of 29:38.
Jacob Hoyle notched a time of 29:47 while Erin Goodrum was the
other GWU student-athlete competing, finishing in a time of 30:42.
As a team, the Bulldogs placed 25th.
The women's team was suffering from a couple of injuries, including one during the race. However, the GWU women pushed through the pain as Carrie Minard recorded a solid time of 19:54 over the 5k course.
Senior Beth Long narrowly missed out on a personal-best time after
crossing the line in 20:29. Just five seconds behind her was Laura
Scott. Diana Palka's time of 20:37 left her just three seconds
behind Scott.
Rebecca Silleman posted a time of 21:09 while rookie Elizabeth
Glunk came in with a time of 22:14.
Lia Hudak totaled a time of 22:52 on the course.
The Bulldogs return to action on Nov. 1, when they compete at their first Big South Conference meet. The meet will be held in Lynchburg, Va., as it will be hosted by Liberty.
