
Bulldogs In Second Place At Stono Cup

CHARLESTON, S.C. The Gardner-Webb men's and women's golf teams have combined to shoot a 1,212 through two rounds of the Stono Cup, placing the squads in second place for teams that are eligible for combined scores. Leading the way is the College of Charleston, which has shot a 1,195 through two rounds of play.
With combined scores, James Madison is second with 1,213 while Wofford is fourth. Wofford is followed by USC Upstate and Tennessee Tech.
The men sit in second place on their side while the women are currently in fourth.
GWU, which posted an opening-day total of 586, trails only USC Upstate on the men's side. Head coach Tee Burton's team is just six shots back.
Leading the way for the Bulldogs is Ryan Bell, who is currently tied for second. On the par-72 course, Bell came out on fire, firing a three-under, 69. He then posted a 72 for his 141. Bell currently trails Kyle Robbins of Stephen F. Austin by four strokes.
Blake Palmer is just two-over par after shooting a 146. Palmer is tied for 11th after opening with a 74. He righted himself in the second round, shooting an even par.
Andrew Rickard is among those in the top-20. Rickard stands in 19th with a 150, just six-over par. Over the first 18 holes, Rickard shot a 74 before finishing the first day with a 76.
Immu Korvenmaa and Brian Horton are just one stroke behind Rickard, having posted a 151. Each are tied for 25th.
The women currently trail the College of Charleston. CofC is followed by Wofford and James Madison. The Dukes are just one shot ahead of the Bulldogs, who posted a first-day total of 626.
Sophomore Courtney Meyer currently stands in the top-five having shot an opening-day total of 151. Meyer came out strong, playing the course in a three-over par. She hit a second-round 76. Meyer trails first-place foe Steffi Circhmayr of Charleston by three strokes.
Mackenzie Renner found herself barely out of the top-10 after the first day. Renner's 155 is just one stroke behind eight place and three behind fifth. After shooting an 81 over the first 18 holes, Renner found her stroke, hitting a 74 in the second round.
Senior Katie Garahan is the Bulldogs' third student-athlete in the top-20. She shot an opening-day 158, but bettered her first-round tally by four strokes over the second 18 holes.
Dana Prozeller is tied for 23rd (162) while Yayoi Garcia posted a 179 for 39th place.
The Bulldogs will look to better their scores on the final day
of competition at the Stono Cup Tuesday.
