Bulldogs Second Among NFCA All-Academic Teams

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced its All-Academic Teams from the 2007-08 school year and the Gardner-Webb softball team was second on the list with a 3.478 GPA.
It marks the third straight season in which the Bulldogs earned a top-10 spot, moving up from fourth last year and seventh the previous season. Last year, GWU had a GPA of 3.493, up from 3.430 the previous year. The Bulldogs' squad was once again the top team in its former league, the Atlantic Sun, and the top one in its new conference, the Big South. The closest A-Sun team was Stetson (65th) while the nearest Big South school was Winthrop, which was 24th.
Tennessee Tech grabbed the top spot with a 3.54 GPA while Seton Hall, Southern Illinois and DePaul rounded out the top five, respectively.
The Bulldogs are coming off a season that saw them knock off the top-rated team in the A-Sun Championship in addition to downing BIG EAST foe Notre Dame earlier in the season.
Ten GWU student-athletes were named NFCA Scholar-Athletes. The list includes current members Alison Coffey, Chrsta Fullwood, Kirsten McLean, Christine Murray, Adrienne Smith and Angie Walls. Recent graduates Taryn Beck, Lindsay Cox, Haley Scism and Jessi Williams also made the list.
