BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. The Gardner-Webb athletics department, in conjunction with head women's basketball coach Rick Reeves, has announced the signing of two student-athletes to National Letters of Intent.
Brianna Dillard and Kimberly McKenney have announced their intentions of joining the Bulldog family next fall.
Dillard, a native of Richmond, Va., is a 5-8 guard from Hermitage H.S. Dillard is a two-year letterwinner that earned first-team all-distric honors as a junior. That same season, Dillard garnered second-team all-region accolades. A talented combination athlete, she earned a spot on the Richmond Times-Dispatch second-team all-Metro squad. Dillard recorded 14 double-doubles as a junior, averaging 13.5 points and 10.2 rebounds per contest. A defensive threat as well, she posted 4.5 thefts per game.
"We are thrilled to have Brianna choose Gardner-Webb as her college of choice," Reeves said. "She is a talented, versatile guard who will come in and have a tremendous impact during her playing career."
McKenney hails from Flint, Mich., where she played for Faith High. A 5-11 forward, McKenney has had an outstanding career and comes from a very talented family. A four-year letterwinner, McKenney has garnered all-conference honors twice. During her career, she has averaged 17.3 points per contest and eight rebounds per game. She has chipped in three assists and 1.5 steals per outing as well. McKenney was named M.V.P. of the Michigan Homeschool State Championship. Throughout her career, McKenney has been a solid leader, guiding her team to the 2007-08 district and regional championships.
"We are excited to have Kimberly join our program," Reeves said. "She played for one of the top AAU programs in the country and is very talented. Kimberly's mother played professional ball in Europe for 10 years and she comes from an athletic family. We look for Kimberly to help uplift our program during the course of her collegiate career."
Reeves, while ecstatic about the incoming class, will look to
guide his team through its first season of Big South Conference
play. Reeves and the rest of his GWU team will open its slate at
Houston Saturday at 1 p.m. Bulldog Nation will get their first
chance to watch the talented team play Monday night at 7 p.m., as
GWU will host UVA-Wise at 7 p.m.
