
Bulldogs Suffer First Loss Of The Season, Fall To Limestone

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. The Gardner-Webb men's swim program was unable to overcome an early deficit as it suffered the first loss of the 2008-09 season Friday evening, dropping the meet to Limestone by a 118-86 count.
GWU was able to claim second and third place in the first event of the night, the 200 medley relay. Samuel Woods, Casey Brutus, Steven Caudill and George Partin combined to touch the wall in 1:38.39 while teammates Matthew Leonard, Collin Burchins, Travis Gibson and Saxon Simpson were just behind them, finishing in 1:41.10 for third.
Close the entire race, Adam Suggs was defeated by Zeljko Karaman in the last little bit of the 1,000 free. However, his time of 10:12.91 gave him a second-place finish. Derek Gore was third in a personal-best time of 10:16.66 while Abram Miller was fourth in 10:25.33. Gore's time moved him into third place on the GWU career list for finishes in the event.
Partin was just off his personal-best time in the 200 free. He was second with a time of 1:43.89. Samuel Woods took fifth in a time of 1:50.45, which ranks as the fifth-best time in school history.
Patrick Elerding improved upon his personal-best effort by touching the wall in 22.38 in the 50 free. The time was good enough for the third fastest in school history.
Caudill, Burchins and Adam Middleton went two-three-four in the 200 IM, which was the last event before the break. Caudill touched in 2:00.24 while Burchins was third in 2:03.56, which is the fifth-fastest mark in school history. Middleton had an effort of 2:03.60.
Caudill improved upon his performance in the next event, the 200 fly. Caudill won the event in 1:56.86 while Middleton won the silver in a solid time of 2:03.33.
Derek Gore had a solid performance in the 200 back as he improved upon his ranking in GWU history. Gore's second-place time of 2:02.06 was .14 better than his previous mark.
Abram Miller led a trio of Bulldogs in the 500 free as he recorded a sub-five minute score. Miller touched the wall in 4:57.67 for third place. Rookie Michael Roka was close to the five-minute mark, finishing in 5:00.39 for fourth.
Casey Brutus and Burchins recorded a finish in the 200 breast that was one for the ages. The duo, going neck and neck the entire way, ended in a tie as each had a mark of 2:12.26. The duo will now have a tie for second place in the career record book.
The 200 free relay team of Caudill, Matthew Leonard, Middleton and Gore combined to touch the wall in a school-record setting time of 1:31.13. The time was good enough for second place.
The Bulldogs return to action Nov. 21-23 when they participate
in the Davidson Invitational.
