GWU Inks Point Guard Brian McNair To National Letter of Intent
November 17, 2008 | Men's Basketball
BOILING SPRINGS Gardner-Webb signed standout point guard
Brian McNair (Wilson, N.C. / Greenfield School) to a National
Letter of Intent, the school announced Monday.
McNair enters his senior season at The Greenfield School as one of
the state's top lead guards. The 6-0, 165-pounder averaged 19.0
points, 5.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game as a junior, earning
Class 1A NCISSAA All-State honors for a Final Four team. A quick,
strong floor leader, McNair should fit in well with the Bulldogs'
up-tempo style. He has been nominated for the McDonald's
All-American Game.
"Brian was the first high school point guard we pursued, and he's a
special talent," said GWU head coach Rick Scruggs. "We graduate two
guards, and need an athletic, smart point guard to come in capable
of playing early. We feel like Brian can make an early impact for
us."
McNair, who also played on Greenfield's 2008 NCISSAA state
championship soccer team this fall, transferred to Greenfield from
Wilson Beddingfield (N.C.) High. He was an All-Area selection in
basketball as a sophomore.
McNair was heavily recruited, and chose Gardner-Webb over Furman,
Appalachian State, High Point, Georgia Southern, St. Francis,
Centeneary and Wright State.
