
Gardner-Webb Off To Best Start In School History After Beating American And Howard

WASHINGTON, D.C. The Gardner-Webb men's swim team is off to its best start in the program's brief history after picking up wins over American and Howard this weekend.
The Bulldogs are currently 3-0 on the young season.
Against American, GWU began the meet by recording the
third-frastest time in school history, taking the 200 medley relay
title in 1:37.06.
Adam Suggs, Abram Miller and Michael Roka all made the medal stand
in the 1,000 free as Suggs won the event in 10:15.77. Miller was
second in 10:16.04 while Roka was third (10:31.18).
In the next event, the 200 free, the Bulldogs once again took the top three spots. George Partin won the event in 1:44.65 while Chris Musco was second (1:50.28) and Derek Gore was third (1:52.80). Musco and Gore each had times that ranked among the top 10 in GWU history.
Rookie Matthew Leonard was second in the 100 back, notching the fourth-best time in school history (55.93). Saxon Simpson was third, touching the wall in 1:005.4.
The Bulldogs then garnered the top three spots in the 100 breast and 200 fly events. Brutus won the 100 breast in 59.73. Rookie Collin Burchins was second (1:02.68) while Patrick Williams took third (1:03.99). Sophomore Steven Caudill posted a winning time in the 200 fly (1:57.16) while Middleton was second in 1:59.30 and Miller took the bronze in 2:04.37.
Partin continued his solid day by winning the 50 free in 21.80. Patrick Elerding, Leonard and Clayton Vickers all posted top-10 times in GWU history in the event. Partin, liking the gold medal spot, claimed another in the 100 free in 48.73. Elerding was second in 49.70.
Casey Brutus won the 200 breast in the second-best time in GWU lore, touching the wall in 2:12.43. Burchins was second in 2:16.15.
Gore amassed the fourth-fastest time in the Bulldogs' history while winning the 500 free in 4:58.96. Roka was second (5:04.67) while Suggs took third (5:07.42).
Caudill finished the two individual events in style, claiming the title in the 100 fly (52.85) and the 400 IM (4:23.21).
In the victory over Howard, the Bulldogs started out the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay, finishing in 1:44.40.
Gore and Musco went one-two in the 1,000 free. The duo recorded the fourth and fifth-fastest times in school history. Gore won in 10:37.03 while Musco was fifth in 10:30.42.
Middleton won the 200 IM in a solid time of 2:02.18. Suggs etched his name in the record book, touching in the 10th-fastest time in GWU's history in his fourth-place effort.
Middleton then claimed the first spot in the 100 fly with a time of 52.51. Leonard and Roka each notched top-10 times in school history I the event.
Caudill's winning time of 54.94 was the second-best time in school history while Partin's second-place effort of 57.87 is the seventh best in GWU history.
Simpson won the 100 breast in 1:03.94, which ended the individual events. Roka was second in 1:06.05.
The Bulldogs return to action Nov. 21-23 at the Davidson Invitational.
