K-State Wallops Bulldogs, 107-48, Sunday Night
December 14, 2008 | Men's Basketball
MANHATTAN, Kan. Kansas State shot a sizzling 59.7 percent
for 40 minutes and delivered Gardner-Webb its worst loss in school
history in a 107-48 decision at Bramlage Coliseum.
The Wildcats (7-3) did nearly everything right from tip to buzzer,
forcing 26 Gardner-Webb turnovers directly into 41 points and
dishing off assists on 30 of its 37 made baskets. Miami (Fla.)
transfer Denis Clemente and Jamar Samuels each scored 20 points to
lead the way, and were joined in double figures by Fred Brown (18
points) and Jacob Pullen (14 points, 11 assists). K-State shot
12-of-24 from long distance, and led by as many as 61 points in the
second half.
The loss for Gardner-Webb (2-7) topped the 48-point margin of
defeat endured on December 27, 2006 at then 4th-ranked Wisconson as
the worst in program history.
GWU, playing its eighth road game already this season in nine
games, seemed to run out of gas quickly in the face of the
Wildcats' speed, athleticism and pressure on both ends.
The Runnin' Bulldogs could not run much, enduring cold shooting for
the third game in a row. GWU hit just 16-of-52 field goals (30.8
percent) and 6-of-21 threes (28.6 percent) in the game. GWU hasn't
topped 40 percent since a 91-71 win at Radford on December 4.
Jonathan Moore was the lone Dog in double digits with 12
points on 4-of-7 shooting. Grayson Flittner added nine points
(4-of-10) and Dillon Boggs netted seven points off the bench for
GWU which played 10 players at least 13 minutes in the
game.
Gardner-Webb will have little time to lick its wounds, as the
Dogs must travel to face a vastly-improved Western Carolina
squad at 7 pm ET in Cullowhee on Wednesday, December 17. That game
will air live on WGWG-FM (88.3).
