
McAneney Shatters School Record

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. While the Gardner-Webb track and field teams were split up for the second consecutive weekend, senior Lucas McAneney boasted a school record in the 10,000m at the Sea Ray Relays, which were hosted by Tennessee.
McAneney crossed the finish line in sixth place in the 10,000m event with a time of 31:27.88. He bested the school record that he previously set in 2005, when he posted a time of 31:59.56.
At the Solid Orange Classic, Jeremy Longshore garnered silver in the pole vault after clearing 4.75m (15'7"). GWU student Elliott Haynie, who was competing unattached, tied the meet record after clearing 5.30m (17'4.50"), which was established in 1990. Teammate Adam Reed was sixth with a height of 4.15m (13'7.25").
Staying with the field events, Matt Knippen heaved the shot put 14.31m (46'11.50"), earning him the bronze medal. Knippen also took third in the discus with an effort of 42.88m (140'8"). Brandon Blanton was seventh in the event with a throw of 36.68m (120'4"). Knippen was third in the hammer with a mark of 48.77m (160'). Jerel Langley's toss of 60.99m (200'1") in the javelin earned him the third spot. Justin O'Shields was eighth in the event after throwing 47.68m (156'5").
Bryant Davis cleared 6.50m (21'4") to take fourth overall in the long jump.
Evan Brusich claimed fourth in the 110m hurdles after qualifying in 16.04 and running a 15.58 in the finals. He was second among collegiate competitors.
In the 400m, Paul Steinke crossed the line in 55.06, which was good enough for third overall. Johnathon Rucker's time of 56.22 earned him the sixth position.
Tim Israel posted a fifth-place finish in the 1,500m with a time of 4:10.17. Teammate Justin Keziah was 10th after crossing in 4:24.56.
Joshua Hudson had a solid race in the 3,000m steeple, finishing in 9:59.04, which was good enough for fourth. In the 800m event, Charlie Steinke's time of 2:00.70 was good enough for eighth.
On the women's side, Kelly Bridges took home the Bulldogs' highest finish of the day, claiming second in the pole vault after clearing 3.35m (10'11.75"). Teammate Carrie Long was sixth after jumping 3.05m (10').
Senior Elizabeth Maxwell led a trio of Bulldogs that placed in the top 10 in the shot put. Maxwell was third in the event with a heave of 12.08m (39'7.75"). Caryn Daane was fifth (11.46m 37'7.25") while Victoria Argus was sixth (11.30m 37'1").
Maxwell did even better in the discus, earning the silver with a throw of 39.76m (130'5"). Brieanna Thompson was fourth with a throw of 35.76m (117'4") and Tabitha Hamilton earned fifth with a performance of 33.84m (111').
Maxwell also took second in the hammer throw with an effort of 46.33m (152'). Daane took fifth with a mark of 39.40m (129'3") while Thompson posted a sixth-place effort of 37.67m (123'7").
In the javelin, Ashley Hall got on the medal stand with a third-place performance of 32.19m (105'7") while Kayla Morgan was seventh after a throw of 26.71m (87'7").
For the running events, two-sport student-athlete Beth Long boasted a solid effort of 2:24.22, earning third in the 800m.
Argus continued her strong day, taking fifth in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.33. She was third among collegiate competition. Bree Tharpe was fourth in the 3,000m steeplechase, crossing the line in 14:21.02.
Dina Nshisso garnered an eighth-place showing in the 400m with a time of 1:07.76. Diana Palka nabbed a top-10 finish in the 1,500m event after crossing in 5:27.70.
Carrie Long, a two-sport student-athlete, crossed the finish line in ninth in the 200m with a time of 27.00.
The Bulldogs return to action on April 18, when they travel to
Cullowhee, N.C., to partake in the Western Carolina
Invitational.
