
Five Swimmers Honored On Awards Day

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. Five Gardner-Webb swimmers were honored Tuesday morning at the 53rd annual Academic Awards Day Convocation, which was held in Paul Porter Arena.
Of the five swimming student-athletes honored, three were seniors while two were freshmen.
Senior Grace Whiteside picked up the communication studies award. Whiteside was part of the school-record setting 800 free relay team while in the pool. She also etched her name in the GWU top-10 list in the 100 free, 200 free, 1,000 free, 1,650 free, 100 back, 200 back and 200 fly.
Senior Heather Roka earned the health and wellness major award. Roka holds the school record for the 500, 1,000 and 1,650 free events. She is also part of the 800 free-relay school-record setting team. Roka is in the top 10 on the all-time list at GWU for the 200 fly and 400 IM. She was part of the fifth-best 400-free relay team in school history.
Senior Camille Palacio garnered the psychology award. Palacio is in the GWU top 10 for her efforts in the 1,000 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, 200 IM and 400 IM.
Sarah Steadman was honored by receiving the first-year English composition award. Steadman has already left her mark in the pool as well. She is fourth on the all-time list in the 100 back and 200 back while ranking fifth in the 200 IM and 10th in the 100 free.
Rookie Jack Zimmerman picked up the Life of the Scholar logo
award. Zimmerman, part of the first-year GWU men's swim team, is in
the top 10 in multiple categories as well. Zimmerman boasts a
top-10 time in the 100 free, 200 free, 500 free, 200 back and 200
IM.
In their first year of competition in the CCSA, the men's and
women's team each took third.
