Christine Murray To Face Olympic Competition

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Rising junior Christine Murray is preparing to face the toughest competition of her young career as she has been selected to take part in the International Series.
The tournament, slated to take part in Ontario, Canada, will host the Olympic teams from Canada, Venezuela, Japan and Australia. Team Ontario, which is comprised of athletes out of Ontario, will allow several collegiate student-athletes to compete against some of the best competition in the world.
The tournament begins July 1 at 1 p.m. in Brampton, Ontario, and runs through July 4.
On July 1, Team Ontario will play the Australian Olympic Team at 6 p.m. On July 2, the teams will square off at 8:30 p.m., in Oakville, Ontario. Team Ontario will play July 3 at 8:30 p.m., in Milverton, Ontario and will conclude its four-game slate in Guelph, Ontario, as it squares off against the Venezuelan Olympic Team.
Murray comprised 8-7 record in 2008 for Gardner-Webb while posting a 3.35 ERA. Her 7.46 strikeouts per seven innings pitched are a school record. Murray currently holds the all-time record for strikeouts per seven innings pitched (minimum of 75 innings pitched) by fanning 8.21 batters per seven frames.
Murray and the rest of the Bulldogs will begin their first season in the Big South in 2009.
