ASHEBORO, N.C. Gardner-Webb catcher Ty Boyles will start
for the National Team in the 2008 Coastal Plains League All-Star
Game Tuesday night.
Boyles is the third Bulldog player to make a summer wooden bat
league All-Star Game this year, joining Jon Ahearn (Hawaii-CBL) and
Tyler Johnson (Hawaii-CBL). Boyles will be making his third
All-Star appearance in as many summers, after landing on the
Clark-Griffith League All-Star Team in 2007 and the SCBL All-Star
Team in 2006.
The Ararat, N.C., standout is playing with the Edenton Steamers
this summer, and has been solid at the plate, batting .264 with
three home runs and a team-high 25 RBI in 39 starts. Boyles has
also thrown out 10 potential base thieves this summer, building on
his outstanding 2008 season at Gardner-Webb.
Boyles emerged as a top starter for the Diamond Dogs in 2008,
batting .327 with six home runs 13 doubles and 33 RBI all
career-high totals. His efforts helped GWU bat .321 as a team and
advance all the way to the 2008 Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament
finals.
